I’m watching High Society and am falling in love with Mike Connor all over again. Frank Sinatra is the most perfect in this role (sorry Jimmy Stewart…)

Tumblr friends, does anyone have one of those posts that has links to all of Cary Grant or James Stewart’s movies? I’m trying to find a stream of The Philadelphia Story. Thanks!

Breakfast at Tiffany's
It’s no shock to those of you who’ve spent time on my blog that I am a big Audrey Hepburn fan. My favorite movies starring her are Sabrina, Roman Holiday, and Charade. When I was in university, pretty much every girl’s dorm room had a poster from Breakfast at Tiffany’s in it. And hey, I’ve got a plaqued photo of Holly Golightly looking into the window at...

The Apartment
This fall, I met some Toronto film critics who’ve been really supportive of my blog and loved the opportunity to discuss about their favorite classic films with someone who loves Classic Hollywood. A lot of them were films I’d seen before, but there was one critic whose favorite I hadn’t seen. Even though it was directed by Billy Wilder and starred Jack Lemmon, it had somehow...

Psycho
When people find out I studied film and write a film blog, they always ask what my favorite movie is. I feel like almost everyone is surprised when I tell them that Psycho is in my top 3. I recently rewatched it on DVD, as well as a “Making of Psycho” featurette, so I will do my best to avoid spoilers (except for the stuff I’m sure you already know about!) Psycho (1960) Marion...

The movie that started it all for me...
I’m finishing up my final grad school application and in my Letter of Intent, basically my personal statement, I explain why I decided to pursue Cinema Studies, and why Classical Hollywood and the Studio Era specifically.  This question is easy to answer but hard to articulate. I know what I felt, but I’m not sure how I can explain it to the admissions board in less than 500 words. ...

If modern movies were made in the Studio Era, what... →
I am so beyond thrilled that someone actually asked this question and then made posters to answer it! Check out what it might look like if Drive came out in the early 1950s and Ryan Gosling’s character was played by James Dean. What if Ariadne in Inception was played by Judy Garland instead of Ellen Page? What if The Hangover was a screwball comedy starring Jack Lemmon, Dean Martin and Jerry...

TIME: Top 10 Memorable Movie Eating Scenes →
I, for one, am scandalized that spaghetti scene from Lady and the Tramp (1955) didn’t make this list! But it is redeemed by the inclusion of The Gold Rush (1925) - not the “roll dance” scene though - and the skillful chopping of a clove of garlic with a razor blade in Goodfellas (1990). Great list on an interesting topic, TIME!

High Society Promotional Trailer →
I just got back from the Grace Kelly exhibition at TIFF and saw this trailer which I’d never seen before! This great High Society teaser trailer stars Bing Crosby and Ed Sullivan. I’ve never been more excited to see a movie I’ve already seen dozens of times!

2011 CAST Awards & Results
I’ve only been blogging for about a little over a year and a half, but I was lucky enough to meet a group of Toronto film critics and bloggers who have been really great and supportive of my goal with this blog.  I was invited to vote in the 2nd Annual CAST Awards by James McNally, the founder of TO Screenshots. The CAST (Cinema Appreciation Society of Toronto) Awards are open to film...

Helen Mirren May Play Alfred Hitchcock's Wife in... →
The Making of Psycho is a film, rumoured to be starring Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock himself, about the hitches Hitch encountered while making his arguably most iconic film, Psycho (1960). This film has apparently been added to The Black List, a database of the most liked unproduced screenplays. Even thought it’s had awful luck getting interest from studios, but I know I’d love to see...
